Diageo has introduced a variant to its Haig Club brand launched last year, called Haig Club Clubman. Also a single-grain scotch, Haig Club Clubman is made exclusively using ex-bourbon American oak casks – unlike Haig Club that uses refill, ex-bourbon American oak and rejuvenated casks.
Soft and sweet on the nose, it's got notes of sweet vanilla toffee, apples and coconut. Definitely easy to drink, it's got more of that oak sweetness on the palate, with also notes of raisins and red apple. It's definitely one for serving long mixed with coke or ginger beer.
Diageo also suggests its signature serve, 'The Haig Clubman', with sparkling apple soda and ginger bitters.
To further Haig Club’s attempt to make Scotch whisky more accessible, Clubman has a lower price point than the original variant, with the aim to introduce new drinkers to the whisky industry – certainly helped by the brand’s continued partnership with David Beckham.
Ronan Beirne, global marketing director for Haig Club, said: 'Clubman aligns with our long-term ambition to offer a stable of Haig Club expressions at various price points to match different occasions and consumer tastes.’
The new bottle keeps Haig Club's signature blue glass, elongating the original’s square style.
