It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce the editorial team has poured its last cocktail at Imbibe towers and the shutters are coming down on 13 incredible years.
Covid-19 is wreaking its worst on our industry and unfortunately Imbibe UK has not escaped its clutches. However, while the magazine and imbibe.com are to be wound up in December 2020, the show will, quite literally, go on, as Imbibe Live is still very much going ahead on 5-6 July 2021 at London’s Olympia.
I joined Imbibe UK just a year ago but have been a longstanding friend and admirer. It’s a brand I’ve watched grow from upstart to market leader and one that has won many loyal fans in that time.
Thanks must go to everyone who has ever been involved in the magazine and website for their hard work in building them into what they are today. It is testimony to Imbibe’s culture that a large number of former staff still write for us and are very much still involved in our portfolio of competitions, tastings and events. It has been a pleasure to work with them all.
As for the current Imbibe UK team – how lucky I am to have inherited such a talented bunch who make Imbibe UK the unbeatable title it is. Thank you for all your hard work. The late nights, brilliant ideas, inspired feature pitches, unfaltering enthusiasm for conversations about whether to cap up Port or not (yes!) and for your dedication to making this job as fun as it should be.
A heartfelt thanks, also, to all our supporters. To all the brands and companies that believed in us and our ideas enough to invest in them over all these years. For recognising what the Imbibe UK magazine and website delivered and the special relationship between our readership and us.
And to you, our readers – all the bartenders, sommeliers, managers, publicans, drinks experts, educators, entrepreneurs and people who just like the world of drinks and hospitality…to those who read the magazine, check out the website, enter our competitions, attend our events and chat with us on our social feeds – you are an inspiration. Thank you all so very, very much for having us.
