The brand new Yorkshire craft brewery launched earlier this summer and is based in a former mill that used to be the location for long-running soap Emmerdale.
The Mill is called Sunny Bank Mills and is located in Farsley, Leeds.
Amity’s trio of core range beers - all interpretations of classic beer styles – and its two limited-editions, have been created by head brewer Greig Swanson, formerly of Buxton Brewery and BrewDog.
Sunnybank American Pale (6% abv) is inspired by classic West Coast IPAs. It’s deep golden in colour, showing aromas of caramel, resin, red grapes, apricot and pineapple, with a touch of mint. The palate has good malt presence, it’s nicely balanced and finishes long.
Festoon Lager (5% abv) is a Bavarian-style pale lager. It pours a bit hazy, with relatively little head. The nose is clean, fresh with notes of honey, white flowers and orange blossom. The palate is quite full, with intense flavours of bread crust, herbaceous and balsamic.
Red Lane Extra Special Bitter (4.5% abv) marries the character of a British bitter with the exuberant aromas of American and New Zealand hops. Nicely fruity, herbaceous, bready, spicy (mostly cardamom) and peppery. Light, crisp and dry.
The two limited editions are a tropical fruit-led Juicy Pale Ale (4.6% abv) and a Milk Stout (5% abv) that will appeal to a sweeter tooth.
Amity is planning to open a taproom in the Autumn. According to director and co-founder Russ Clarke, it's ‘inspired by the US model of a brewpub, making limited batch beer on-site and getting it into the hands of the community fresh and fast’.
