A Tribe in the Wild will see bartenders battle it out for Whisky Ambassador’s BIIAB accreditation and a survival experience on Orkney
Scottish whisky brand Highland Park has launched its bartender engagement programme, A Tribe in the Wild, for UK bartenders. Inspired by its dramatic and picturesque surroundings, the prize will see eight victorious participants take part in a Bear Grylls survival experience on Orkney – as well as over 100 bartenders earning a space on the Whisky Ambassador’s BIIAB accreditation programme (worth £250 each).
The programme consists of three challenges:
Challenge One – Highland Park in the Wild (entries close 8 July)
This one’s all about the ‘gram. Bartenders are invited to upload their cocktail interpretation of Highland Park in the Wild to Instagram, making sure to tag their bar and the brand (@highlandparkofficial) including the hashtag #atribeinthewild. The bartenders with the best photographs will then be invited to take part in Challenge Two.
Challenge Two – Every Day’s a School Day
The best 26 bartenders from each of the four regions will be chosen to go ‘back to school’, spending a day in either Glasgow (30 July), Newcastle (13 August), Birmingham (20 August) or London (27 August). They’ll be put through the Whisky Ambassador’s BIIAB accreditation course (a first for any bartender engagement programme), gaining them extra kudos in their profession. The day will also include a full Highland Park immersion session and will finish off with some well-earned Highland Park whisky cocktails.
Ahead of the school day, bartenders will be tasked with creating and submitting a video of their A Tribe in the Wild cocktail. This video and the results of the accreditation exam will determine who is selected for Challenge Three.
Challenge Three – A Tribe in the Wild
The final tribe of bartenders will be taken on a trip in September 2019 to the home of Highland Park, Orkney, to partake in a survival experience designed and run by the Bear Grylls Survival Academy. The bartenders will have to work together to overcome the numerous challenges which demonstrate the strength and resilience of the people behind the brand, as well as link to the incredible environment.
After a ‘Pot Mess’ campfire dinner and a night’s rest, the bartenders will then spend their second day on Orkney at the Highland Park distillery to learn about the brand and the whisky.
