Leading Scottish merchant Exel Wines is now distributing Bordeaux producer Castera, a Médoc château located in the town of Saint Germain d’Esteuil, north of Saint Estèphe.

Exel is currently stocking the 2015 vintage of Château Castera grand vin.

‘Not only were we impressed with the quality and character of the 2015, but the price bracket works really well for us,’ said Exel’s business development manager Mark Crawford.

‘We love working directly with passionate producers that make wines with provenance but that also appeal to modern wine drinkers and which we can offer at affordable prices. Castera ticks all these boxes.’

The château’s grand vin is a Merlot-dominated blend (65%), a variety that thrives in Castera’s 63 hectares of sandy clay-limestone sub-soil and gravel topsoil.

The resulting wine shows classic Médoc flavours and structure, complemented by the softness and approachability from the high percentage of Merlot in the blend.

‘Château Castera presents us with a great opportunity,’ commented Crawford.

'We had been looking – and somewhat struggling – to extend our quality Bordeaux offering at this price point. The approachable style of Castera is what we increasingly find our customers seek in a modern Bordeaux at this level.’
