Yesterday evening, in sunny Mexico City, our very own Jamie Jones – formerly of the Social Company – grew one step closer to Diageo World Class glory, making his way into the World Class top 10.
Fifty-five of the world's best bartenders battled it out in an intense two days of competition, with challenges that tested every bartending skill you could think of. The hottest trend of the moment (sustainability) saw the contestants tasked with making the ultimate green cocktail, with just the ingredients of a kitchen larder.
Other tasks included the Heat of the Moment challenge, where bartenders used culinary techniques and local ingredients to create a cocktail.
'We’re two days into the biggest and best bartending competition in the world and I’ve already witnessed some of the most incredible cocktail making of my life. Every finalist has stepped up, so it was a tough call deciding on who should make the final 10,' said Lauren Mote, Diageo’s global cocktailian and World Class judge.
'However, for me and the other judges, the 10 we selected each did something truly exceptional and standout. From beef blood signature cocktails and crushable patio drinks with culinary techniques, to a really cute approach to a “DIY” Bloody Mary home-bar kit. We’ve seen a vast array of concepts, inspired drinks, mishaps turned into successes, and the most important thing – 55 amazing bartenders brought their best, and had fun.'
With just two days of competition left, the final 10's next challenge is the Battle of the Classics, seeing who can create the best classic cocktail.
