Gonzalez Byass UK to distribute Rathfinny Estate

Gonzalez Byass UK has been appointed exclusive UK agent for English sparkling wine producer Rathfinny Estate with immediate effect.

Rathfinny, described as one of the newest and largest single estate vineyards in England, is due to release its first wines – a Blanc de Blancs and a Rosé – in June 2018.

The East Sussex producer was established on a working arable farm by Mark Driver, a former hedge fund manager, and his wife Sarah, previously a solicitor in the City.

Gonzalez Byass UK managing director Martin Skelton praised the Drivers’ work, including their championing of establishing a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for Sussex wines – an idea which has met with a mixed reception from rival producers.

'Rathfinny will become one of England’s most important sparkling wine producers, and my colleagues and I are excited to be a part of that journey,' Skelton added.

Gonzalez Byass UK sales director Melissa Draycott said Rathfinny’s wines were among the finest English sparkling wines she had tasted, adding: 'In my view, the chalk soil of the Sussex Downs has imparted a terrific minerality, which together with a round and supple house style, makes Rathfinny a unique proposition.'
