With thanks to our friends at FAM, London, who sadly closed their doors earlier this week, here’s a checklist of things that need to be done before you lock your doors for the last time in a while.

In the emotional turmoil of having to close your doors for the foreseeable future, it’s all too easy to forget some of the essential jobs that need doing before you lock your doors. The lovely people at FAM published their checklist on Instagram, we’ve recreated it here in case any of you might find it useful.

  • Write down current readings of all meters
  • Take stock and safeguard or store expensive spirits and items
  • Photograph entire back bar and entire bar
  • Take all money off site
  • Take card readers, laptops and iPads off site
  • Lock down tills (or leave completely open to show no cash)
  • Place note on the door
  • Update opening hours online & answering machine (plus, Instagram, website, google etc)
  • Remove all perishable goods, dry fruits, process the last of the cordials etc
  • Empty, clean and turn off ice machines
  • Disconnect draft beers & clean lines (we’ve got some tips and advice on this here)
  • Turn on or install alarm systems and cameras
  • Set up a change of address for mail
  • Turn off water and gas mains
  • Turn of RCD switch on the electrical panel
  • Turn off heating/air con
  • Secure terrace furniture or remove it, retract and turn off sunshade
