Grand Union has become the latest pub group to launch a new standalone retail concept with its latest opening Bean + Cocktail + Razor, in Wapping.

Grand Union Wapping will be situated between Thomas More Square, between St Katharine’s Dock and the new London Docks landmark development. The 6,700 square foot new venue, which is set to open in June, will combine a cocktail bar, restaurant, branded speciality coffee house, and barbershop.

The coffee house will be operated by Vagabond, while the barbershop will be run by male grooming brand Drakes of London. The space will also offer mobile office 'hot-desking' with wifi and charging ports. Experience packages, including traditional pizza rolling, coffee and cocktail masterclasses, and male grooming workshops will also be available.

The group, which was founded in 2006 by CEO Adam Marshall and own eight London bars, said it hoped the new site would be a 'grown-up playground' and 'disrupt long-held norms for drinking, dining and socialising' in the wake of changing consumer demand. Marshall said that how consumers want to use a drinking venue has fundamentally changed.

Marshall said: 'We are pioneering a completely new retail/leisure experience. Londoners are constantly on the hunt for innovation and with our new Wapping venture, we think they will be very interested indeed.'

The concept for the space is based on the three industries that historic Wapping has been famous for; coffee, bars and grooming. Décor will also have an industrial edge, with poured concrete finishes, mechanical chandeliers and neon lights.

The news comes days after Whitbread announced the latest evolution of its Beefeater restaurant concept, with the opening of the first Bar + Block in Birmingham city centre this March. Described as an 'evolved, contemporary version' of its Beefeater brand it a central bar with copper detailing and a large open kitchen. Key design elements include a branded mosaic threshold, butcher's block host desk, booth-style leather seating and exposed brick walls that showcase contemporary artwork pieces including a neon cow and wall calligraphy telling the Bar + Block brand story.
