Halewood has added a small batch, single cask dark rum to its Liverpool spirits line, less than a year after acquiring the brand.

Liverpool Rum (43% ABV) is column distilled - not in Liverpool but in Trinidad - from sugar-cane molasses, aged for 16 years, and finished in American bourbon barrels.

The company said the launch aimed to reflect the seafaring history of Liverpool, with the port having been 'the final destination for rum for centuries'.

A spokesperson at Halewood Wines & Spirits, said: 'The launch of Liverpool Rum was inspired by Liverpool’s rich heritage and culture. It celebrates the brand's super-premium standards, appeals to rum connoisseurs, and follows on from the outstanding popularity and success of Liverpool Gin.'

The rum is the third spirit category to join the expanding Liverpool collection, which also includes a vodka, gin, rose gin and Valencian orange gin. Halewood purchased the brand in May this year, with the aims of expanding distribution globally.

Liverpool Rum is intended for sipping neat, or over ice, or used in a 'Liverpool Storm', with Halewood's Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer and lime. A 70cl bottle retails at £48.
