Hallgarten boosts its Burgundy numbers

17 November 2017

Big changes in Hallgarten’s Burgundy portfolio were announced this week, with the addition of a number of new producers to the range, and with a focus on lesser known appellations.

Hallgarten's brief to its wine buyers was to create a Burgundy list that is ‘innovative, inclusive and concise’. As a result, it now lists a total of 22 producers from the region, with 32 new wines from 11 producers, seven of which are entirely new to Hallgarten. Smaller appellations represented in the new range include Auxey-Duresses, Ladoix, and Pernand-Vergelesses in Côte d’Or and Mercurey in Côte Chalonnaise. More established Meursault, Puligny and Gevrey are also among the new wines.

‘We have focused on some of the smaller, less well known appellations in the region and on those that are responsible for putting Burgundy on the map,’ Hallgarten’s French wine buyer Beverly Tabbron MW explained. ‘Each wine we have introduced has been selected on its merits and is intended to really stand out on a wine list.’

Among the new producers are Philippe Bouzereau in Meursault, Domaine Gouffier based in Fontaines and Mercurey, Côte Chalonnaise producer Château de Chamilly and organic pioneer Domaine Guillot-Broux.
