The first iteration has been made from 2019's apple drive donations and the cidery hopes to continue the range by introducing a new apple mail-in box for 2020

This Is London will launch on Thursday 13 August and is made of 100% donated London apples. It will be available in UK bars as well as online, and all of the profits will be donated to Social Orchards Urban Planting, which champions community-run orchards.

The brand-new apple mail-in box aims to encourage Brits throughout the UK to save perfectly good apples, by ordering the box online and filling it with up to 10kg of apples. The urban cidermaker, which is based in London's Bermondsey, has been working hard to make a stand against waste. Depending on donations, Hawkes hopes to release future ciders using apples sent in from across the UK.

'The year I started our cidery I spent my whole summer driving round picking up unloved apples, and there were so many more that I just couldn’t manage,' said Simon Wright, founder of Hawkes. 'This year we’re making a bold statement, to show the people of the UK how bad apple wastage is in our country. Now it’s up to you, to send us your apples!'

To launch the new cider, Hawkes will be throwing 5,000 pints down the drain from its cidery on 13 August. It is challenging Londoners to save it by heading down to the brewery, grabbing a glass, and filling it up for free.

To donate some apples simply visit WeAreHawkes.com, order a box, and send it back via pre-paid courier.
