After championing the flavours of Britvic with his original cocktails, Ricky D Wing has been crowned winner of the inaugural #MixersMatters competition.
Head bartender of host The Holy Birds, in London's Shoreditch, D Wing impressed judges with his Delicious Morning, a combination of Edinburgh Gin, apricot brandy, fresh lime juice. whole egg and Britvic Ginger Ale.
'I wanted to do a twist on a sour,' said D Wing on his winning creation. 'I'm taking inspiration from a Red Eye, which is why I'm channeling my inner Tom Cruise in Cocktail,' he joked as he both flaired and threw his drink behind the bar. 'Topping it off with Britvic Ginger Ale gives it just the right amount of spice, and creates the extra creamy texture.'
Five competitors from around the country – some travelling from as far as Glasgow and Cornwall – took part on the day. They were:
- Kaden Pool, Strata Bar, Glasgow
- Alessandro Riccardi, The Verge Bar, London
- Yiannis Vlahos, Green Bar at Hotel Café Royal, London
- Adrian White, St Tudy Inn, Cornwall
'The standard of competition was so high,' said Britvic's Russell Kirkham. 'The range of drinks was very hard to judge, and they were all to such a high standard. They all showcased the flavours of our soft drinks.'
