Krug Grande Cuvée, NV Brut Champagne, France
I’ve been a Krug Ambassador since 2011 and this is a personal favourite! The current release is made with grapes harvested in the 1990s. This is rich and robust, with citrus and toasty notes. The oak treatment adds to the layers of complexity. Works well with simple yet indulgent dishes: shellfish, truffles and Parmesan. Even cured salmon with piccalilli and curry.

En Barberon Pinot Noir 2015, Domaine Stéphane Tissot, Côtes-du-Jura, France
I went in search of this wine after trying it at a top London restaurant. Biodynamically produced; this Pinot is well structured with classic cherry flavours and smooth tannins, but has a fragrant and smoky, mineral character that plays with your palate. Ideal for summer food; perhaps serve chilled? Works with beef carpaccio and earthy but sweet ingredients like beetroot or grilled tomatoes, plus smoked chicken.

Katsuyama Lei, Sapphire Label Saké, Junmai Ginjo, Sendai, Japan
I tried this at a saké tasting and loved it. Based just north of Tokyo, this traditional producer is one of Japan’s oldest, going back to the 17th century. This saké is floral and aromatic with a sweet and mineral finish. Serve it chilled with fresh, salty dishes like scallop ceviche with lime or sashimi-grade tuna with sea herbs.

Cross Banyuls 2013, Gérard Bertrand, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Ex-international rugby player Gérard Bertrand is one of the top Languedoc-Roussillon winemakers. This vin doux naturel is 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Grenache Gris. Served chilled it shows off lots of summer fruits, cherries and cassis, with an intense dark fruit finish. Pairs really well with summer berries and chocolate. It’s also a great alternative to port with cheese.
