Carlsberg UK says the investigation as to how one of its staff members died at its Northampton brewery yesterday as the result of a gas leak is ongoing.
The incident occurred yesterday at 12.30pm at its Bridge Street brewery. Police have confirmed 11 individuals working on site and a further 11 members of the emergency services were taken to hospital as a result of the leak.
However, all but one staff member – described as being in a serious but stable condition – have been released.
Julian Momen, chief executive officer, Carlsberg UK, said: 'We are deeply, deeply saddened by this tragic incident and subsequent fatality. Our immediate thoughts are with the individual's family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time and we will support them in every way we can.
'Our further thoughts and support are with our colleagues and members of the emergency services who are being treated in hospital. One of our colleagues remains in a serious but stable condition.
'Nothing is more important to us than the safety of everyone working for us. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how this incident occurred and we will be in a position to say more once a full investigation has been concluded.'
The police have confirmed the gas leak is confined to the Carlsberg UK site and the emergency services do not believe there to be any wider risk to members of the public outside of the site. Production at the brewery has been stopped whilst the investigation takes place.
