Prepare whisky geeks, Kilchoman is set to launch the 7th edition of its 100% Islay range.
'Particularly special to Kilchoman', the 100% Islay releases are all barley to bottle and completed on site at the farm. Kilchoman claims to be the only distillery in Scotland to produce single malt in this traditional way.
Bottled at a punchy 50% abv, the Kilchoman 100% Islay 7th Edition is golden in colour, with the distillery describing aromas as having vanilla, light zesty fruit and malty notes. The palate is said to be fresh and citrusy with intense butterscotch and light smoke – with a clean, long, peaty and sweet finish.
'Since day one we have not only been proud of the traditional methods revived to create the 100% Islay releases but also the quality of the spirit produced,' said Anthony Wills, Kilchoman founder and managing director. 'We are now growing more barley than ever for future releases of this beautifully fresh and vibrant whisky.'
The 7th edition of the annually released limited edition is a vatting of fresh and refill ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels filled in 2010 and bottled in 2017. The peating level comes in slightly lighter than the rest of the Kilchoman range and create a fresh and floral balance with the bourbon cask maturation.
You'll have to wait a few weeks though, as it's only available from 1 May.
