James Hocking, formerly wine director at The Vineyard Cellars, has launched his new distribution business focusing on wines from California.

James Hocking Wine’s focus will be on small, boutique producers from California and selection of other North American regions.

The portfolio ranges from entry-level labels to fit the by-the-glass price point, up to more niche, boutique producers such as Kistler, Dana Estates, Occidental, Ovid and Scarecrow.

Lodi-based Oak Farm Vineyards is one of the James Hocking Wine’s highlights. Making its UK debut, Oak Farm’s range includes a Sauvignon Blanc, a Zinfandel, a Cabernet Sauvignon and 'Tievoli', a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Barbera.

Hocking’s portfolio also includesLarkin Wines, a boutique Napa winery that returns to the British market after more than 10 years of absence. Larkin’s flagship label is a Cabernet Franc, but the winery produces classic Napa varietals too, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Merlot and a Chardonnay.

Other names currently featured in the portfolio are: Amala Springs, Benovia, Ferrari-Carano, Mandolin, Moone-Tsai, Silenus, Talley, Waterstone and Whitehall Lane.

A selection of James Hocking Wine’s range will be available to taste at the upcoming California Wine Institute’s Essential California tasting on 12 March at The Yard Shoreditch, London.
