London wine merchant Jerobaoms has been announced as the sole agent for Montalcino winemakers, Podere Le Ripi.
The biodynamic estate, formally part of the Hallowed Ground portfolio, had the densest vineyards in the world in 2005.
Estate owner, Francesco Illy wanted to test the theory that a greater density might produce less grape bunches – so greater intensity. The estate's yields are very low at 3 tonnes per hectare.
'It's a real pleasure to join the Laytons and Jeroboams portfolio following the closure of Hallowed Ground,' said Illy on the move to Jeroboams. 'We are very grateful to Amelia Jukes for all the work she has done for us opening the UK market and look forward to working closely with the Peter Mitchell MW, Paul Stringer and all the team at Laytons and Jeroboams.'
'We are delighted to be appointed agents for this exceptional estate, which will be another great addition to our growing Italian range,' added Peter Mitchell MW, Jeroboams' wine director. Podere le Ripi's philosophy is a great match with ours and we look forward to introducing the range to new audiences.'
