Has the lack of Game of Thrones chat at your bar got you down during the never-ending hiatus between seasons? Cheer up, Podrick: Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker, in partnership with HBO, has launched a new limited edition inspired by the show to get you through these cold, lonely months.

Dubbed White Walker after the series’ army of the undead, the new Scotch whisky was created to be served directly from the freezer, revealing an icy marbling when frozen thanks to temperature-sensitive ink.

The liquid in the bottle has also been crafted with the series in mind. Diageo whisky specialist George Harper developed the whisky with single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish, one of Scotland’s northernmost distilleries.

‘Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall – so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky,’ explained Harper.

On the palate, White Walker promises notes of vanilla and caramel, red berries and a hint of orchard fruit. At the limited edition's launch event held last night at Kachette in Shoreditch, it was served three ways: neat; in a highball with soda, ginger, lemon, and mint; and in an Old Fashioned garnished with frozen rosemary.

White Walker won’t be the only Game of Thrones-themed spirit on the market for long. In February 2019 Diageo will launch the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, a range of eight Scotches each based on a different house of Westeros (if you know, you know).
