Majestic takes on first sparkling red from Bouvet Ladubay

Wine Majestic has taken on its first sparkling red wine, a new launch from Loire winemaker Bouvet Ladubay.

Bouvet Rubis is a demi-sec NV sparkling made in the traditional method using only Cabernet Franc – a first for the Saumur house.

Lots of brambly fruits kick off the nose, with blackberry and blackcurrant especially, plus hints of thyme. The palate has quite warming flavours, not without recalling mulled wine – think vanilla and touches of cloves. Overall it's fairly easy-drinking, with medium acidity and slight tannins. Pair it with something creamy, such as New York cheesecake or a lemon tart.

This follows the recent news of Bouvet Ladubay returning to the ownership of the Monmousseau family after a gap of over 40 years. While the family managed the winery continuously since 1932, it had been owned by United Spirits, the India-based wine and spirits company now owned by Diageo, until November last year.
