Restaurants can join the home-delivery service to help market and sell their food and drinks lists to consumers at home
Restaurant Kits has been conceived by Mac & Wild co-founders, Andy Waugh and Calum Mackinnon, as well as hospitality tech entrepreneur Edward Alun-Jones, the man behind Top City Bites and Orderu, the digital ordering system. It also launches in collaboration with Tipjar.
Since then, they have been joined by a roster of founding members: Thom and James Elliot (co-founders of Pizza Pilgrims), James Cochran (founder of 12:51 and Around the Cluck), Paul Daniel and Laura Sheffield (co-founders of Corazon), Lisa Meyer (founder of Yum Bun), Tom Griffiths (founder of Flank), and Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby (co-founders of Kricket).
'We’ve worked hard to put a hospitality platform and software system in place to help restaurants reopen during and in the aftermath of Covid-19,' said Alun-Jones. 'We’re offering the restaurants the option to manage the Restaurant Kits service themselves or hand everything over for our internal team to handle. We have the infrastructure and scale to handle every element of kit development and fulfilment for the restaurateur if needed – we find for many this is a very attractive solution as they re-focus on opening their sites and need the real estate to serve traditional customers.
Restaurants wanting to join the site can choose between two options:
- A listing and marketing option.
- A complete end-to-end solution that includes kit development support, marketing, fulfilment, inventory management and customer service.
Both options give participating restaurants visibility on the platform. With the listing comes promotion via Restaurant Kits social media channels and growing newsletter database, helping brands reach potential customers across the country rather than them having to rely solely upon their own channels and community.
As well as a food offering, drinks lists are also included for both RTD or 'mix-at-home' formats. The current drinks list includes the Infinity Bottle, a whisky blending kit which features a bottle, funnel, measure, blending guide, wax, tear strip, tag and expert tips; and The Cocktail Mini Bar, created in collaboration with Mac & Wild and Haig Club, including four RTD cocktails.
Mac & Wild's Mackinnon sees Restaurant Kits as a long-term solution for restaurants during the coronavirus pandemic: 'We see the Restaurant Kits solution working for restaurants and diners for the long term, not only to support our partners through a tricky time, but as the infrastructure to endure long after... For some, the logistics of posting and fulfilling may not be an issue and that’s cool – they can still benefit from the centralised voice and leverage of the platform. But for many, we’re finding they need the end-to-end solution to make this a sustainable option for them.'
Restaurant Kits use eco-friendly packing from Puffin Packaging. Each kit sent will arrive in a cardboard box insulated by lambswool. The wrapping of the lambswool is 100% recyclable along with the ice packs. The food containers are made from a 100% recyclable polypropylene.
Kits start from £15, nationwide delivery is charged at £4.99. Restaurant Kits aims to deliver between one to three days. Find out more here: restaurantkitsuk.com
