New Zealand Winegrowers has allocated three spaces to the UK and Ireland for its annual summit held with international sommeliers in New Zealand.
The one-day 'Sommit' (sommelier summit, geddit?) is invite-only, with international delegates joined by local sommeliers Cameron Douglas MS and Stephen Wong MW. And they won't fly all the way there just for one day either. The successful applicants for this Sommelier Scholarship will also be able to attend Pinot Noir NZ 2017, 'one of the most coveted Pinot events on the planet'.
'The scholarship event was first run in 2015, in association with Sommeliers Australia,' said New Zealand Winegrowers marketing manager for Europe, Chris Stroud. 'It was a roaring success and we are delighted to be able to extend it further afield, to sommeliers working in the UK & Ireland.
'This is a fantastic opportunity for top sommeliers to immerse themselves in the New Zealand wine scene and gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of the diverse range of premium wines produced here. It is sure to be a memorable experience!'
Fancy being one of the three? You'll need to be a working somm in the UK or Ireland, and attend one of three masterclasses hosted by Ronan Sayburn MS. These will be held in Edinburgh on 27 June, London on 28 June, and Dublin on 29 June. If you're chosen by the selection committee, you'll be notified by the end of July 2016.
