Profits from the sale of 1,000 bottles of its Ginger Switchel will go to Kelly's Cause Foundation, a wellbeing and mental health charity for hospitality employees
Launched in 2018 by drink industry specialist Bethan Higson, Mother Root is a no-abv, all natural blend of pressed ginger juice, blossom honey, organic apple cider vinegar and a hint of chilli for a sweet-sour drink with a kick.
Its Ginger Switchel has mainly been sold via the on-trade, meaning Higson's business has suffered since the onset of Covid-19. This is what inspired her to raise money for the well-being charity during Small Charity Week 2020 (15-20 June).
'The last couple of months have been incredibly tough for all of us and especially the amazing people in the hospitality sector who bring so much joy into our lives on a daily basis,' she said. 'With the announcement that the furlough scheme is going to be gradually reduced, many workers are feeling anxious about their future. I decided to take action and do my best to help the people in our industry who have supported me.'
'I was introduced to the Kelly’s Cause Foundation and was immediately moved by the charity’s story and purpose. I’m so pleased to be launching this limited edition in support of all the incredible work they are doing in such a challenging situation.'
Founded in 2019 by Tobie-Anna Durk in honour of a young chef who took her own life, Kelly's Cause Foundation offers mental health first aid training in the hospitality sector, and works to reduce stigma towards mental health across the industry.
Mother Roots is said to be 'best enjoyed over ice with soda, a slice of orange and a fragrant sprig of rosemary.'
