For the second year in a row, eight northern breweries have teamed up to craft the Northern Powerhouse series, a range of seven beers dedicated to showcasing the region’s beer community.
The 2019 edition has been spearheaded by Leeds brewery Northern Monk, in collaboration with Track Brewing Co, North Brewing Co, Donzoko Brewing Co, Wylam Brewery, Buxton Brewery, Cloudwater Brew Co and By the River Brew Co.
The collection features a variety of flavour profiles and styles, including everything from a 3.3% abv Small IPA to a 10% abv Imperial Maple Brown Ale. The cans are equally creative, kitted out with labels designed by seven of the north’s top tattoo artists.
The Northern Powerhouse project was founded last year by Wylam Brewery. After a successful first series, Wylam wanted to turn it into an annual collaboration hosted by a different brewery each year, and handed things off to Northern Monk for 2019.
‘We’re honoured that Dave [Stone, director of Wylam Brewery] and the team at Wylam chose Northern Monk to be the home of the Northern Powerhouse this year, we’re proud to bring this iconic project to Leeds,’ said Russell Bisset, founder of Northern Monk.
‘Together with seven of the North’s finest breweries, we’ve created a collection of really varied, great-tasting beers. Community, collaboration and creation are at the core of our business, and the Northern Powerhouse sits in perfect alignment with these values.’
The beers are set to make their debut on 28 June at Northern Monk’s Leeds and Manchester taprooms, as well as at By the River in Newcastle. The following day, they’ll be rolling out across a number of bars in tap takeovers across the UK, and they’ll be available to purchase online, too.
