Nyetimber unveils redesign for 30th anniversary

English sparkling wine has come a long way in the last decade, with Nyetimber as one of the wineries leading the charge… so it seems unbelievable that the winery has been operating for 30 years.

But apparently it has, and as a result it has decided to redesign its labels. The winery has chosen a shield label design with coloured bands across the top denoting the wine the bottle holds: blue for the classic cuvée, pink for the rosé, gold for the single vineyard and white for the blanc de blancs.

Nyetimber has had a history of huge success punctuated with a couple of lows in recent years. It was the first English sparkling producer to exclusively grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and now owns 170 hectares of vineyards in West Sussex and Hampshire.

Last year the winery saw some lows when it lost a case against former employee James Mason, who levelled accusations of bullying against Nyetimber owner Eric Hereema.

While the trial was taking place, The Times also reported that the Savoy had delisted the brand following Hereema’s behaviour at an event in Burlington Arcade, where he allegedly smashed glasses and insulted bar staff.

On a more positive note, earlier his month, Cherie Spriggs, the winery’s head winemaker, was named the Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge. She has been with the company since 2007.
