Championing the smaller producer, Original & Distinctive has bagged the UK distribution rights of seven Bordeaux Petit Châteaux.
The seven wines will join an impressive champagne portfolio and still wines from Italy, Spain and the UK. O&D isn't just about the grapes, as it has craft beer, traditional cider and perry, and spirits in its arsenal.
So, back to its latest recruits: From the left bank, Château Tour Haut-Caussan is described as having a 'very traditional' approach to viticulture and wine making, using no chemicals, only homemade compost from grape stalks and cuttings. Next up is Château Tour De Pez from Saint-Estèphe with 48 parcels covering 30 ha laying on limestone-clay, marl and grave soils.
Château Charmail has a reputation dating back to the beginning of the 18th century. Fun fact: ageing lasts 12 months in barrels made from French oak, only one third of which are renewed each year to avoid an overwhelming impact of new wood. Onto Château Deyrem Valentin, with 14 ha total, 12.5 ha in the commune of Soussans and 1.5 ha in the Haut Médoc appellation. The best parcel has vines close to 100 years of age, said to be the oldest in the Médoc.
Last but not least, Château Fontaine is part of Château Brondelle which has produced Sauternes for several decades. The vineyards are mainly planted with Sémillon, with some Sauvignon Blanc.
From the right bank, Domaine Gonzague Maurice, Château Beard La Chapelle and Domaine Gonzague Maurice join the fold.
