Old Potrero 18th century style whiskey is coming to the UK for the first time in 15 years thanks to our friends at Fields, Morris & Verdin.

The agency and wholesale division of Berry Bros has managed to get its hands on a limited supply of the San Francisco whiskey. No mean feat after the decision was made to keep the stuff for its domestic market due to increased demand and limited production in 2003.
Old Potrero is made from 100% malted rye grain distilled in copper pot stills. The liquid is aged in a combination of new and second-fill lightly-toasted, fine-grain American oak barrels to guarantee a bold spice and fruit character.
The whiskey will be available through FMV for wholesalers, retailers and bar operators to purchase from 3 April. If you can’t wait that long, you can get hold of a bottle (if you’re quick) through Berry Bros & Rudd online and retail channels.
Old Potrero was originally released in 1996 after Anchor Distilling Company owner, Fritz Maytag wanted to shake up the category with an original style whiskey.
‘The FM&V team is excited to be bringing Old Potrero back to the UK,’ trade marketing manager Roy Evans said. ‘Over the past 20 years the Potrero whiskey’s have achieved cult status amongst American whiskey fans and as one of the original craft whiskies, Old Potrero offers bartenders and retailers alike a great talking point to share with the customers, backed up with a unique, high-quality taste.’
Berry Bros & Rudd acquired a majority shareholding in Hotaling & Co (previously Anchor Distilling Company) in February 2018.
