The Sommelier Wine Awards 2019 opens for entries

18 September 2018

Sommelier Wine Awards, the only wine competition judged by the on-trade and run in conjunction with Imbibe, is back and open for entries.

Making a name for itself as a barometer for trends within the wine industry, the Sommelier Wine Awards has previously highlighted such movements as Australian cool-climate Chardonnay and English sparkling wine before they were on everyone's lips.

And with entries predicted to break the 3,000 bottle barrier next year for the first time, the organisers are expecting a record haul of medals.

As always, entries will be put through their paces by a top panel of judges, including Christine Parkinson, head of wine for the global Hakkasan Group, global on-trade consultant Annette Scarfe MW, Andrés Ituarte, Head Sommelier at Coq d’Argent and Charlie Young, Owner of wine bar group, Vinoteca.

Competition director Chris Losh comments: ‘In a world not short of wine competitions, the Sommelier Wine Awards has kept growing because it brings something genuinely different – a competition where all the wines and all the judges are on-trade focused.

‘If you want your wine to make an impression in the UK hospitality sector, there’s no better way to do it.’
