Aberdeen-based Langstane Liquor Company has created a new expression of Porter’s Gin inspired by blanc de blanc champagne
Orchard Fizz
Garnish Star anise or a slice of apple
Method Add the gin, apple juice, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled glass. (Alternatively, add all your ingredients to a glass filled with ice and stir gently for a minute.) Top up with champagne and garnish.
30ml Porter's Orchard
50ml apple juice
Squeeze of lemon juice
Champagne, to top up
Called Orchard, the new gin combines Porter’s classic juniper base with cold-distilled apples and pears to lend a fruitiness reminiscent of the chardonnay grape. The spirit also contains a soybean distillate, which brings rich, buttery notes, and red apple extract, which gives it a golden colour.
Langstane was co-founded by industry stalwarts Alex Lawrence, Ben Iravani and Josh Rennie. The company also makes Porter’s Gin and a Tropical Old Tom variant; last year, it launched Glasshouse Whisky, a scotch designed specifically for highballs.
With Porter’s Orchard, the trio continues to champion long drinks. Orchard’s recommended serve is a simple G&T garnished with an apple slice – though we hear it also works well in a French 75 or an Orchard Fizz (see box).
The new gin will be available to purchase at the end of September.
