Patrón Tequila is on the hunt for perfectionist bartenders to craft its best cocktails for 2016. Could you be one of them?

Shaken, stirred, strained or built. Great cocktails, like great tequilas, aren’t made, they’re crafted. That’s why Patrón, the world’s highest-quality ultra-premium tequila, handmade from 100% Weber Blue Agave, is searching for a Perfectionist UK bartender to craft the perfect Patrón cocktail.

When you’ve been passionately producing the world’s finest tequila for more than 25 years, you know there’s an art to every single sip. Patrón is one of the most-recognised and respected luxury spirits brands in the world. But it’s still exclusively produced in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, in the same small batches and with the same commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

From hand-harvesting the highest-quality 100% Weber Blue Agave, to the traditional, time-honoured distillation process and individual labelling, numbering and inspection of each bottle, Patrón tequila is made with meticulous precision and care.

In search of perfection

The Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition
Bartenders who have their application to enter the competition accepted, will be given a copy of The Perfectionist’s Handbook, and asked to email in their drink’s name, method, ingredients and description. The final closing date for entries is 31 October. Those selected had better be on their toes throughout September and October when a mystery judge, The Perfectionist, will be visiting bars to try the creations. The Perfectionist will call on all registered bars between 1 September and 31 October.
The finalists appearing in The Perfectionist’s Yearbook 2016 will be announced after this date, and will go head-to-head in November to select an overall winner. The winner of The Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition will visit Hacienda Patrón in February 2016.

Now Patrón, in partnership with Imbibe, is searching for a Perfectionist bartender who puts the same passion, care and precision into crafting their cocktails, to join them on a luxury, all-expenses-paid trip to the home of Patrón, the Hacienda Patrón distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.

Throughout September, Patrón will be distributing its limited-edition The Perfectionist’s Handbook to the UK’s best bars. As well as telling the story of Patrón, the prestigious handbooks also detail the brand’s 10 best cocktails for 2015. Now Patrón is inviting entries for the 2016 edition, by asking bars to create and serve a cocktail worthy of a Perfectionist.

Bars that have had their competition entry formally accepted will be asked to put their Perfectionists cocktail entry up for sale over September and October. The drink – which must use one of Patrón’s super-premium tequilas from Patrón Silver, Patrón Reposado, Patrón Añejo, or Patrón XO Cafe – will then be secretly judged.

‘The Perfectionist’, a leading mixologist and tequila expert will be travelling the length and breadth of the UK to secretly judge all entries, scoring the drink, presentation, bartender and bar against each other. The Top 10 Perfectionist Cocktails will be profiled and celebrated in The Perfectionist’s Yearbook 2016, which will be distributed nationwide with Imbibe magazine. This will bring national and even international recognition to the drink, bartenders and bars who make it all the way through, as Patrón celebrates the passion for perfectionism that it shares with its customers, bartenders and consumers. The top 10 drinks will then be pitted against each other to find an overall winner, whose creator will then find themself on the way to the Hacienda Patrón.

Some cocktail competitions give you the chance to travel abroad to exciting countries. Some tequila competitions offer trips to Mexico. Only The Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition can get you the chance to visit Hacienda Patrón.

Welcome to Hacienda Patrón, Jalisco, Mexico
Deep in the heart of the foothills of Jalisco, Mexico, within the Hacienda Patrón, the entire tequila-making process takes place. Skilled jimadors work steadily to uproot only the finest Weber Blue Agave and strip away the leaves with a sharp coa tool to reveal the heart of the plant. The unused agave remnants are used as organic compost, spread amongst the courtyard gardens, with their bubbling fountains and shady cloisters. The home of Patrón tequila is so much more than a grand hacienda. It’s a working testament to doing things the right way. Built as a special place, where both visitors and employees would feel welcome, the hand-carved stone walls of the hacienda are home to a chapel, grand dining rooms and cottages, all inspired by Mexican, Spanish, French and Italian design and architecture from the 1700s. The hacienda is the beating heart of Patrón and symbolises everything that makes Patrón tequila the finest in the world. It’s a place like no other, and made with passion – just like Patrón’s iconic tequila.
