Are you passionate about looking after the environment? Well, the team at Slane Irish Whiskey are, and they're challenging bartenders to create a groundbreaking cocktail that celebrates sustainability.

The Slane distillery
The Slane distillery

Housed in 250-year-old farm buildings in the Boyne Valley of County Meath, Ireland, the Slane distillery is striving to become one of the most environmentally friendly whiskey distilleries in Europe. It already harvests rainwater, produces next to no waste and employs a heat-recovery system. Now, the family behind Slane whiskey want to make sure that this sustainable approach continues even after the whiskey has left its doors.

Slane’s co-founder Alex Conyngham made sure that sustainable practices were considered in every aspect of the distillery’s creation, from grain to glass. In honour of this commitment to building a more progressive style of environmentally friendly whiskey, they want you to make a drink for them using their smooth, bold and characteristically rich whiskey.

All you have to do to enter is submit a cocktail recipe in line with the competition's requirements, along with your personal details, a picture of your creation and a brief description of your inspiration for it and what sustainability means to you.

And though sustainability efforts offer rewards in the form of a healthier planet, Slane’s offering an impressive prize to sweeten the deal. Three lucky winners will win a unique three-day trip to Ireland courtesy of Slane, which includes a stay at the sustainable Rock Farm. There, they’ll have the opportunity to relax, forage for cocktail ingredients and soak in the stunning scenery.

But that’s not all the champions will also take part in a takeover of a top Dublin bar, where they’ll showcase their winning cocktails.

There can only be one entry per person and details of your cocktail recipe requirements, along with all the other terms governing this competition, can be found here.

Got a groundbreaking recipe? The deadline for entry is 23.59, 1 June 2019. Visit the competition’s website to learn more and enter.

About Slane Irish Whiskey

Slane Irish Whiskey is a smooth spirit of natural character with untamed notes of oak and spice from a signature triple-casked blend. From the Conyngham family of Slane Castle, whiskey making expertise of Brown-Forman and the proud people of Slane village, this is a whiskey for those living the stories that will be told for generations to come. Slane Irish Whiskey takes many of its complex and smooth qualities from its signature triple-casked process. Whiskey is aged in three varieties of casks: virgin and seasoned casks raised by hand at the venerated Brown-Forman cooperages, and oloroso sherry casks by way of Jerez in Spain. Once the liquid has been aged to perfection, it is masterfully blended to create an exceptional, full-bodied Irish whiskey, while retaining the smoothness that consumers can expect from blended Irish whiskey. The whiskey is the best of Irish whiskey making traditions but also has a sustainable approach to production.
