Ramsgate named as site for largest Wetherspoon's pub to date

18 August 2017

The largest JD Wetherspoon pub, with a customer area of almost 11,000 sq ft, is set to open in the seaside town of Ramsgate.

Costing £4.5m to build, the site of the Victorian/Edwardian pavilion building – previously a casino and dance hall, bar and nightclub, in Harbour Parade – was chosen and will result in 150 new jobs.

Specialising in real ales, as well as craft and world beers, the new pub promises to serve a wide range of draught ales, as well as bottled beers from local and regional brewers.

The Grade II-listed building has been restored, working to photographs and designs, in an attempt to keep it as close as possible to the original concept, designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead and originally completed in 1903.

The biggest Wetherspoon’s pub features two floors and two bars, plus a ground floor rear beer garden, where smoking will be permitted in a designated area, as well as a first floor roof terrace.

Local is at the heart of this local, as specially commissioned artworks by local artist Julia Baxter are on display. A limited-edition print by another local, Leise Wilson, original prints by Dawn Cole and original paintings by Dave Mullet will all grace the walls.

‘Myself, Chris Whitbourn and our team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Ramsgate community,’ manager Charlotte Mason said.

Mayor of Ramsgate Cllr Trevor Shonk and the mayoress of Ramsgate Mandy Shonk will officially open the pub at 8am on 29 August.
