Roberson Wine drops Grandes Marques

Wine merchant Roberson Wine has decided to drop big name champagnes from its website and instead focus solely on grower champagnes.

The company said the reason for this was to offer 'the best products at the best prices' while keeping with the values of the business.

'Our role as a leading independent merchant is to hunt out exciting new wines for customers which are not widely available elsewhere, yet our champagne range never really fit with this. With champagne people tend to expect the big names,' said Adam Green, business development director. 'When we reviewed our range recently we realised that this was one area where we could really improve the application of this mentality, hence the decision to switch grande marques for grower champagnes.'

Marketing and communications manager Lisa McCaghy added: 'When we buy wines our priorities are taste, quality and value for money. We don’t sell big brands as we prefer to root out wines made in smaller quantities with great stories behind them, but champagne has always been treated differently, with the big brands retaining an element of prestige that smaller growers find it difficult to compete with.'

Roberson Wine's range of grower champagne includes Vouette et Sorbée, Larmandier-Bernier, Jacques Lassaigne, Chartogne-Taillet, Artéis & Co, Champagne Suenen, Roses de Jeanne, Bérêche & Fils, Champagne Savart, Champagne Dosnon, Egly-Ouriet and Jacques Selosse.
