Venues who serve The Hospitality will have a donation made by Smeaton's on their behalf to the drinks-industry charity to support the on-trade during Covid-19
The cocktail, which was created by gin judge and blogger Meme Toor, won Smeaton's Hospitality Cocktail Competition and draws inspiration from the classic Negroni. It uses Campari-infused pineapple which Toor explained 'complements the fresh orange and cinnamon botanicals' that are individually distilled in Smeaton’s Gin.
Smeaton's brand ambassador, Alex Williams, commented that the cocktail 'tastes delicious, shines in the glass, and will offer bars an easily replicable, relatable, value-added cocktail to offer their patrons returning from lockdown'.
The drink's use of pineapple was also a winning point for Williams: 'The pineapple has a long association with hospitality, dating back to when the exotic fruit was so rare and valuable that it was only shared by generous hosts intent on delighting their guests. It is fitting that this emblem of hospitality shines through in Toor’s cocktail.'
Of the initiative, brand-owner Michael Palij MW said, 'Bars and restaurants embraced Smeaton’s Gin when we launched. Now it’s our turn to help and at this immensely challenging time for the on-trade, we are committed to supporting Hospitality Action – a charity which supports hospitality workers in times of hardship.'
