The Stable launches Cider of the Year Awards

19 April 2018

Cider and pizza-mad bar The Stable is doing even more to spread the word of cider, announcing the launch of its first ever Cider of the Year awards, teaming up with Crafty Nectar, Cider Box and the ciderologist (and Imbibe Educator of the Year winner) Gabe Cook.

The 17-location venue will run the competition throughout the year, inviting cidermakers from across the country to enter their ciders to the first round.

Judged by cider experts and customers from all The Stables locations, the entries will be shortlisted to just 10 absolute corkers, and these will then all be on sale at all The Stable venues for around six months. During this period, the ciders will be voted for by customers.

During the judging period, The Stables is expecting to serve over 500,000 pints of cider.

It's a hard job, but someone's got to do it, and when all that cider tasting is done, the votes will be counted on 1 September, with five ciders making it though to the final.

The illustrious final will take place on 14 September, with the ultimate champion becoming The Stable's Cider of the Month for October 2018 and gaining a place the restaurants' Cider Experiences  masterclasses for the year.

'I can’t wait to see this competition unfold. Getting the ball rolling by sending out the invitations for the first round was very exciting,' said David Gough, operations director for The Stable. 'Entries are certainly not restricted to these invitees and I highly encourage other cidermakers to enter – both British and international.

'I’m looking forward to serving the shortlisted ciders in The Stable’s restaurants in the second round. That’s what makes these awards unique – they aren’t just decided by a board of judges, but our customers too, whose opinions we value dearly.'
