Following the recent launch of Wines of Portugal's free online course, wine professionals will now be able to further their knowledge of Portugal's rich wine heritage with Symington Family Estates' new School of Port

The new digital platform was developed as a response to the Covid-19 lockdown, when training sessions could not take place offline.

The online training consists of a series of digital workshops and video courses, mainly designed for professionals working with Port in the on- and off-trade.

'A big part of our work is educating people about the port category,' said Rob Symington, director of Symington Family Estates. 'Often people who don’t know about Port become really enthusiastic once they learn more and taste the wines. We do a lot of consumer education through our tours and tastings in Porto and the Douro, but another crucial aspect is training the trade... We are excited to use School of Port to deliver engaging, contemporary and useful Port education to wine trade professionals all around the world.'

The first training module, 'School of Port – The Essentials', will have to be requested online at It concerns Port winemaking, styles, pairing suggestions, and practical advice for selling Port in both the retail and restaurant sectors.

Meanwhile, workshops will be taught via Zoom by a professional Port educator.

This will be followed by a short test and a certificate will be issued to successful attendees.

School of Port is also active on Instagram @schoolofport, with an 'informal, behind-the-scenes look at various aspects of how Port is made and consumed'.
