Douglas Laing & Co has unveiled the third iteration in its Epicurean Wood Series of whiskies

The new Lowland Malt Scotch Whisky was first matured in American oak barrels, then finished for 12 months in Rivesaltes casks, a sweet wine from France's Languedoc-Roussillon region. It was then bottled at an abv of 48%, non-chill-filtered.

‘The Epicurean brand is growing well – its spirit quality coupled with its versatile style is increasingly recognised but from time to time, we like to experiment and innovate with this malt as it lends itself so well to cask finishes,’ said managing director Chris Leggat. ‘The cask and the whisky add their own unique personalities and with this Rivesaltes finish, the outcome is a balanced marriage of cask and spirit character – we are delighted with the result.’

The whisky is said to have ‘a sweet, honeyed style showing sugared cereal, milk chocolate, hazelnuts and crystallised citrus fruits’.

48% abv, RRP £59.99/700ml, Douglas Laing & Co, douglaslaing.com
