The Lakes Distillery relaunch award-winning gin

01 March 2017

Following a sell-out summer of 2016, The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria is set to re-release its The Lakes Gin Explorer Edition as a permanent addition to its portfolio of spirits.

The Lakes Distillery was Cumbria's first malt whisky distillery for over 100 years, producing the area's only malt whisky along with gins and vodka.

With only 3,632 bottles of the single-batch gin produced, master blender Dhavall Gandhi describes the spirit as having tasting notes that 'will delight'. These 'delightful' notes include a combination of zesty orange citrus, coriander and cassia bark on the nose, followed by hints of earl grey tea and cracked black pepper.

Gandhi believes the palate is 'almost herbal and complex with vibrant notes of juniper, spice and coriander. Black pepper dominates and leads to a long peppery finish.' The gin's 15 botanicals include the use of local Cumbrian juniper and six other Lake District-native botanicals.

Coming in a powder, cornflower blue, the bottle has a matte finish with laser-etched botanicals.

The Lakes Gin Explored Edition is available to The Lakes Distillery subscribers from mid-March and to the trade from April.
