The run-down on this year's William Grant Highland Festival

17 August 2017

The sun came out, and therefore the guns came out, as William Grant's Highland Festival returned to Haggerston Park last weekend.

Now in its third year, the festival idea is pretty simple: eight brand teams compete for the title, a trip to Berlin, and year-long bragging rights.

This year it was team Monkey Shoulder who came out on top, captained by none other than global brand ambassador Joe Petch.

'Another sunny day at the Highland Festival! Such a great day and so good to see everyone in-between the mad competition rounds. Great effort from my Monkey Shoulder team members (in the words of Iain McPherson) – "Winners win Berlin Dinners"'.

Petch's team winning those Berlin dinners included Ben Alcock (HMSS), Nathan Shearer (Swift), Iain Mcpherson (Panda and Sons/Hoot the Redeemer), Cara Watson (Hoot the Redeemer), Filip Stříbrný (Duck and Waffle), Mattia Conti (London Cocktail Club) and Arjun Sahi (The Swing).

This year the competition was fiercer than ever, with a new challenge - Sucker Punch -added into the equation, along with 2016 favourites Bootcamp Challenge, Last Man Standing, The Ramos Gin Fizz Cocktail Relay and Tug of War.

'Highland Festival is a day that everyone looks forward to all summer, it’s like sports day all over again and to be crowned the winning team makes the day that little bit sweeter,' added Alcock.

'Bring on the celebrations in Berlin! I, of course, have to say a big thank you to the William Grant & Sons UK team for making this day happen year after year – it is events like Highland Festival that make us love the industry we work in.'
