Entries for the 2017 Sommelier Wine Awards competition are now open. Britain's only on-trade wine competition, UK merchants and producers from all around the world are invited to enter their wines.
Entering its eleventh year, the Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA) rewards the very best wines available to restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels in the UK.
With a judging panel consisting of top UK sommeliers and wine buyers, 2017's panel includes Xavier Rousset MS; Julien Sahut, head sommelier at Sexy Fish; Christopher Delalonde MS from Medlar; Hamish Anderson, head sommelier at Tate; and SWA's Gold List Coordinator, Christine Parkinson, head of wine for the global Hakkasan Group.
This year's competition saw 140 sommeliers and buyers judge 2,500 wines from over 20 countries, with the annual SWA Gold Book of winners being sent to more than 12,000 UK on-trade buyers – offering the perfect opportunity to get your wines out there.
'It's great to be able to see on-trade only wines judged by such a high calibre set of judges,' said competition director Chris Losh. 'These guys know better than anyone else what works in a restaurant wine, and they prove that year after year. If you're interested in targeting the UK on-trade, there's no better way of proving your wine's credentials than a medal in SWA.'
Agents can submit their entries online before 25 January 2017. The results will be published online in May, with the Gold Book released with the July/August issue of Imbibe.
