The Three Mariners crowned Lunesdale CAMRA Pub of the Year

26 April 2017

It's good news for Lancaster's oldest pub as the Three Mariners has been awarded ‘Pub of the Year 2017’ by the Lunesdale branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

Being acquired by Robinsons Brewery in 2015, the 600-year-old pub has kept its characters and charm, going from strength to strength since the takeover.

During its long-standing residence the pub has been a part of much of the town's history, including having strong ties with Lancaster Castle, being the rumoured place prisoners were taken from the castle dungeons to have a last drink with their families and holding those awaiting The Pendle Witch Trials on 1612... if only walls could talk.

'I am amazed to receive the award, it was a very nice surprise. Over the last four years we have built up an amazing customer base and it is them who enable us to do this,' said Dominic Leighton, licensee of The Three Mariners.

'I’ve got the best bunch of staff you could ask for and an amazing team of chefs in the kitchen. Thank you to Robinsons for ensuring that we've continued to get a great selection of ales, and for helping us to expand to having nine hand-pulls as well, which has really helped to set us apart from the competition.'

'The Three Mariners is a great example of a pub that has embraced its past whilst looking towards the future,' commented Steve Robinson, business development manager for Robinsons Brewery.

'I am delighted to have had the chance to work with Dominic and his team and I’m pleased to see the success of their hard work paying off.'

Here's to another 600 years!
