Last night saw Time Out present its first London Bar Awards, with Punch Room at The London Edition winning twice in the night.

This was the first year Time Out carried out its Global Bar Programme, which aims to identify and award the venues that 'define the drinks scene' in some of the cities it covers.

In London, Punch Room won Bar of the Year and Most Stylish Bar, while Dandelyan won best Bar Team and the Connaught Bar got the award for Classiest Bar, showing the talent and influence of hotel bars in the British capital. Other winners included White Lyan for Most Creative Bar, Original Sin which got Best New Bar, and Satan's Whiskers receiving the prize for Hippest Bar.

Last night's ceremony followed four others that acknowledged the best drinking spots in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Paris. They also showed varied trends in all of those global drinking cities: while classic cocktails won big in much of the US, Los Angeles also favoured tiki bars, while good food was an important focus of more than one Paris winner.

The winners of Best Bartender or Bar Team from each of the five cities will be flown to Austin, Texas for a celebration, courtesy of sponsors Austin Tourism & Convention Bureau and Tito's Vodka.
