Tom Kerridge to open The Butcher's Tap pub in Marlow

28 September 2017

Two Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge is set to shake up the streets of Marlow as he opens The Butcher's Tap pub with Greene King this November.

Everyone knows the pub is the centre of the community but Britain has lost over 28,000 pubs since the 1970s and Kerridge's Buckinghamshire opening couldn't come at a better time.

Partnering with friend and butcher Andy Cook, The Butcher's Tap will combine a butchers and public house in one, with the butchers and bar in the day, and a simple meat-led restaurant at night.

The food offering is set to remain good old pub-style – expect braised faggots, hot-pots and scotch eggs – with beers on tap, a small but select drinks list.

The project marks the first of Greene King's joint venture concepts. The new Pub Partners programme will see the pub company and a brewer team up with industry entrepreneurs and innovators. So watch this space.

'We want The Butcher’s Tap to be the heart and soul of Marlow, somewhere you can pop in every week for your usual order that we’ll have ready for you, but also a place you can have a pint and a hot pork pie straight out of the oven,' said Kerridge on the new opening.

'We aim to work with the best in the business and are thrilled that the next step of our ongoing partnership with Tom Kerridge also marks the start of what we hope will be a major development in our Pub Partners division,' added Clive Chesser, managing director of Greene King Pub Partners.

'We have enjoyed a long and rewarding partnership with Tom Kerridge that has seen the
Hand & Flowers [a Marlow pub where Kerridge is involved] go from strength to strength, and I cannot think of a better partner with whom to launch our joint venture programme,' concluded Chesser. 'These concepts will see us working with innovators in the industry to come up with new ideas to expand the potential of a pub and enhance even further the role it plays in a community.'
