UK merchant, Top Selection, is to make a concerted push into the north of England.
'We’re on the verge of making it happen,' said the merchant’s chairman, Akos Forczek. 'It’s hard to find the right people, but we’re nearly there now.'
The plan is to target Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, 'but if our new arrival wants to go to Newcastle or Birmingham I wouldn’t be opposed to that either,' joked Forczek.
Of particular interest are high-end hotels, where Forczek believes that Top Selection’s winning of the Sommelier Wine Awards Boutique Merchant of the Year award has been a big help. ‘It’s really helped us get a foot in the door,’ he said.
The merchant picked up the award for the second year running in 2017, with 12 Golds, six Silvers and 14 Bronze medals.
