Cornwall-based Verdant Brewing Co is launching a £500,000 Crowdcube campaign to fund a new taproom and allow it to ramp up capacity fourfold.

Since its inception in 2014, Verdant has struggled to keep up with demand, despite upgrading once already from a tiny 200l to its current 16hl setup. ‘Even by brewing every day, we know we are not satisfying the demand, that’s why I’m 100% confident about quadrupling our capacity,’ director Adam Robertson told Imbibe.

In doing so, Verdant will be able to produce the amount necessary to satisfy all its markets, from UK’s most demanding craft beer hubs of London, Manchester, Bristol and Leeds, to foreign countries such as Spain, Italy, China, Poland, Singapore and Australia.

Verdant brews hoppy, American-influenced beers, with hazy New England IPAs its main focus since the beginning – a style that Robertson claims is ‘here to stay’. Recently however, the brewery has started offering lagers and barrel-aged stouts too, and is planning to beef up its range with further styles, which ‘we haven’t brewed before simply because of capacity issues,’ commented Robertson.

Like many other young, successful craft breweries seeking expansion, Verdant is undertaking the crowdfunding path, a decision dictated by its wish to remain independent. ‘It will allow us to make the right decisions for the business,' Robertson said. 'Because of our choice, we’ve had a very positive feedback from the public.’

The campaign opens to early bird investors on 20 November.
