The company's flagship whiskey, Westward American Single Malt, will arrive first, followed by Westward American Single Malt Oregon Stout Cask and single barrel expressions in 2020.
‘The demand for and interest in American whiskey in the United Kingdom, and the country's appreciation for... quality malt whiskey represent a major opportunity for Westward American Single Malt Whiskey,’ said Westward CEO and co-owner Thomas Mooney.
The whiskeys start life as an American pale ale, made using locally grown and malted barley, ale yeast, and a slow, low-temperature fermentation. The beer is distilled twice in pot stills before being aged at a ‘relatively low proof’ in new, lightly toasted American oak barrels.
Westward American Single Malt whiskey promises a ‘robust and fruity aroma, with creamy vanilla and brown sugar notes’.
Westward Whiskey is part of Diageo-backed accelerator Distill Ventures.
