Wetherspoon to open nine new sites including hotel

10 June 2016

Pub giant JD Wetherspoon has announced it is to open eight new pubs and a new hotel over the next six weeks.

The news comes after recent strategic mass disposals by the circa 920-strong chain, which saw it put a portfolio of 33 sites on the market in May. Wetherspoon announced in its latest trading statement in early May that it expects to open 16 new pubs in this financial year.

The first of the eight pubs, The Booking Office, will open at Edinburgh's Waverley train station on 14 June.

The remaining sites – in Newton le Willows, Largs, Northolt, Formby, Huntingdon, Chatham and Okehampton – will open before 19 July.

The opening in Northolt will also include a hotel development, with a further hotel site to open at its Huntingdon pub in September.

Wetherspoon chief executive John Hutson said: 'We are looking forward to opening our new pubs and hotels, a number of which are in towns where we are not yet represented.'
