WineEd accreditation reaches more than 1,000 students

20 June 2017

Wine training group WineEd has launched its first accredited online qualification, and already reached more than 1,000 students.

The first qualification for the group, 'This is Wine Online' is a level 2 award (equivalent to a GCSE) in Principles of Wine Sources and Production, is aimed at explaining the basics of wine to new staff. But further courses in Wine Service, Customer Engagement and Category Management will become available inside the next few months. The online course is available for £30 per student with the qualification costing an additional £70.

Owned by Jascots, WineEd is an independent training company totally focused on the needs of the on-trade.

'Accredited qualifications have more value to students than normal training as they provide evidence to employers of their skillset,' said ex-sommelier and now training manager Matt Cocks. 'In creating our workshops and our qualifications we have made sure that we consider the wants and needs of our students as well as the objectives of their employers to ensure everyone gets the most out of the training experience.'

Despite only launching earlier this year, WineEd already counts Pergola on the Roof, National Theatre, Polpo restaurants and The Curtain Hotel and Members Club amongst its customers.

'WineEd’s high impact, focused training has made it really easy for our front-of-house team to understand the wine list and how to sell and serve it in a short space of time,' added Ed Devenport, director at Pergola on the Roof. 'The benefits have been felt immediately not only in the quality of serve from our staff but also on the bottom line.'

'Wine Ed is going to be vital to the hospitality sector in ensuring it can meet the expectations of London’s sophisticated consumer,' added Katy Kruczko, assistant club manager at The Curtain Hotel and Members Club.

Courses (and exams) are conducted online or via an app, and cost £100, though there are also two hour 12-person workshops available for £360.
