Bodega Argento has been putting sommeliers through their paces with a pair of blind tastings – one more blind than the other – in London recently. The best taster of each event was announced today at Imbibe Live, each earning themselves an enviable trip to Argentina and Uruguay.
The first tasting event saw a panel of somms descend on The Hospital Club, where they were presented with a flight of wines, but with no clues as to the name of the winery, or even country of origin.
The second tasting event took things even further, held as it was at Dans le Noir restaurant. The assembled sommeliers were presented with three dishes and six wines – in total darkness. They selected their favourite wine matches, before returning to the light to guess what each of the wines were, as well as the ingredients in the dishes.
And the winner of the first event at The Hospital Club is Tomasz Janicki from Ting at The Shard, while Plateau's Lukas Nikanorovas took top spot at Dans le Noir.
They will visit Bodega Argento and Bodega Garzon in Argentina and Uruguay, respectively.
