Just in time for the Rio Olympics, you'd think... Not quite. Yaguara Cachaça is bringing its Branca to the UK, but it won't be available until September.
Try to keep the Brazilian vibe going that long, though, because it's a spirit worth looking out for. This white, unaged cachaça is made from hand-cut and -crushed sugarcane, with the liquid spending eight months resting in inox (stainless steel) vats after copper pot-still distillation in 750-litre batches.
It's characteristically green on the nose, with aromas of corn, green tomatoes, and salt-and-pepper notes, layered with some blossom touches too. The profile remains green on the palate, with still something peppery, and some savoury, vegetal notes on the finish.
This is one you want on your back bar if you’re after a relatively easy-drinking cachaça that's still got some of that typical rusticity and greenness. Yes, of course, it'd make a great Caipirinha – but we'd like to see it in a Bloody Mary twist, too.
Like the others in the range – including Yaguara Blend, launched over here last year – it comes in a stunning Brian Clarke-designed bottle, inspired by the pattern of Copacabana Beach's sidewalks.
